All the Candidates for CBC Tithe Farm Ward (1 to be elected)

All the Candidates for CBC Tithe Farm Ward (1 seat)

David Abbott*
Catherine Aganoglu, Green
Pat Hamill, UK Independence
Martin Kennedy, Labour
Tracey McMahon, Independent
Ken Wattingham, Liberal Democrat

David Abbott has been an active member of Houghton Regis Town Council since 2015. In his Election Address, David says, “With the many changes happening with housing and transport, you need a strong voice and a ‘lonely’ voice cannot achieve as much as a voice working as part of a team. Being a vocal and active Councillor, by electing me you will have a champion for our community.”

Mr Abbott has chaired the Corporate Services at the Town Council, engaging with the officers to ensure that the policies necessary for a growing town are suitable and appropriate; he has been Vice-chairman of Planning at the Town Council, supporting developments that have the community in mind, and opposing applications that are not sympathetic by over-development or other reasons. He has also supported the steering group in generating a Neighbourhood Plan and believes that it is an extremely important document that will help shape the way our town grows in future.

In David Abbott's address,  he says his key principles are value for money and keeping spending in check. He opposed a proposed 24.5% increase in Houghton Regis Town Council's share of  Council Tax; he cooperated cross-party to vote that down and helped bring in a revised budget for the Town Council meaning no increase was necessary.  David says, “I know you want value for money, sound plans, and spending and investing in the right things – not spending on grandiose schemes to suit a National agenda of a particular political party.” (source: adapted from David Abbott )

Green. Catherine has been living in Houghton Regis for 10 years and is representing the Green Party in Tithe Farm because she believes we have to prioritise measures to enable the town to be economically and socially sustainable. She says, “I believe there should be opportunities for people in the town to have more meaningful opportunities to participate in the decision making processes and am keen to promote Green Party policy on democracy with three practical steps:

  • For councils to allow residents to form panels and assemblies to directly input into council decision making.
  • To have a more democratic committee system where strategic decisions are taken by all councillors on the council, working together across Party lines.
  • For councils to devolve power to Parish and Town councillors and the hard-working residents who serve on community.”

UK Independence. Local business owner & Author Pat HAMILL has a record of Campaigning for YOU! Pat Hamill has lived in Houghton Regis for 47 years and on the ward of Tithe Farm. Independent. Tracey McMahon, Houghton Regis resident for 50 years, schooled at Houghton Regis Upper School, married for 28 years to Dave. Tracey's passions are her town, and helping people.

Tracey has served Houghton Regis Town Council for the last 4 years. In her leaflet, Tracey says she will be reporting things that need reporting, listening to residents with local issues, and supporting them, working to improve the safety of the town by attending Police Priority Setting Meetings, working with other agencies behind the scene, and pressing for a Town Council Community Safety Strategy to help tackle ASB, drugs, and knife crime. Fighting to prevent building overdevelopment in inappropriate places and spaces, lobbying for the improvements that she feels Houghton Regis desperately needs.

Tracey wants to see CBC spend some money on OUR town for a change. She believes in not muddling up national politics with local issues, saying that we have huge challenges ahead of us, and we MUST work together! Improving parking. Continuing to fight for the Town Council to have their Town Town Ranger to clean graffiti, cut back overgrown trees and bushes that are blocking footpaths, or just generally dangerous, and clearing up localised fly tipping Improvements to parks especially at Tithe Farm Rec.
