High Street / Tithe Farm Road Corner Plot Approved for Development

  • Councillors today gave approval to a corner plot development in close proximity to Houghton Regis town centre also part of the Houghton Regis Conservation area.

Video above shows Houghton Regis Town Councillor David Jones and CBC Councillor Pat Hamill both speaking at the Development Management Committee, today, against an application for a development in Houghton Regis. Cllr Hamill spoke today on behalf of the ward and took no part in the voting.

CB/19/04182/FULL - was decided today. The proposal was for the erection of a new dwelling near the corner of High Street and Tithe Farm Road, making use of a small access road leading from Park Avenue, with the official description as "Land adjacent, 134 High Street, Houghton Regis, LU5 5DT".

Bad Decision

Councillor Hamill gave HRND this statement afterwards, “Bad decision for Houghton Regis.  It will cause problems as a development for locals.  This committee has voted away most of our Greenbelt to developers, now attacking our open spaces and have just decided to take over a part of our conservation area again Bowing down to developers. Not a care for the residents of Houghton Regis has been afforded by the controlling Tory Group.  Very disappointed but we fight on.”

Local resident, Danielle Melissa Osborne, commented on Houghton Regis News Desk Facebook Page, “After watching the meeting and submitting a statement listing off planning issues- there were 110 resident strong petition 23 neighbour objections being part of conservation area our own town parish council going and strongly objecting the DMC decided to approve regardless with no mention of residents - they don’t even have access to the house for building materials??? And their only access through private land not owned by CBC or the developer!

“Central Bedfordshire Council you should be absolutely ashamed of yourselves and even more disgusted with your planning dept who struggled live on the meeting with not one of you listening to existing residents but does that surprise me not at all as you are proving more and more that Houghton Regis existing residents don’t matter and aren’t allowed a voice!”
