Outline Planning Approved for 24 homes at Highfield Barns

Another outline application to build a further 24 houses on a site adjacent to the Taylor Wimpey site at Aylesbury Drive, off Bedford Road, was approved by Central Bedfordshire's Development Control Committee last month.

REVISED 3396_103_H_Illustrative Masterplan (002) 9.8.18.pdf

Location: Highfield Barns, Bedford Road, Houghton Regis, Dunstable, LU5 6JP
Parish Name: Houghton Regis
Description: Outline Application: Formation of a new access to serve existing residential development and residential development of up to 24 dwellings together with an enhanced footpath link and associated landscaping

Optimis Consulting was praised by ward CBC councillor, Susan Goodchild, for consulting with the Houghton Regis Town Council, and herself. Neither the Town Council or Cllr Goodchild had raised objections.

Cllr Goodchild did raise concern about the number of works off of Bedford Road and it was pointed out to her that traffic calming measures were included in the schemes. Cllr Goodchild also queried that outstanding works from S106 of the Taylor Wimpey site agreement had not been done yet, and this was a concern for local children accessing schools. The chair of the committee said that those works, "needed pushing".

The 0.90hectares site  is currently used as a paddock. In 2011, a registered Shetland pony stallion Benston Issac, on the left, was stolen from this paddock and recovered a week later when he was found tethered to the side of a canal (see story on horseandhound.co.uk) and traced through micro-chipping.

The outlined scheme would include 56 new parking spaces. As part of the S106 agreement traffic, calming measures would be included for the Highfield Barns site.

The access to the site would be opposite the Old Red Lion.
