New Apprentice joins Aldwyck in National Apprenticeship Week

New apprentice joins Aldwyck in National Apprenticeship Week

Aldwyck Housing Group* is celebrating National Apprenticeship Week** with the recruitment of a new apprentice.

Savannah Gladden is the latest trainee to have jumped at the chance to take an apprenticeship at the housing group.

The talented teenager will complete a Level 2 apprenticeship in customer services over the next two years under the supervision of a tutor from Central Bedfordshire College while also gaining vital workplace experience.

Savannah’s appointment as Customer Service Apprentice is the latest step on her inspiring personal journey.

Four years ago, Savannah was not always as confident as she is now. She was encouraged to attend the Sandringham Drive Youth Hub in Houghton Regis, which is run by Aldwyck to tackle anti-social behaviour.

In order to challenge herself, Savannah decided to become a volunteer for Aldwyck’s Community Involvement Team so she could help other young people attending the Youth Hub. Since then, she has achieved over 700 volunteering hours and gained 26 AQA accreditations in subjects including healthy eating and lifestyle.

Savannah’s achievements were recognised last year when she won the Young Volunteer of the Year Award at the Pride of Houghton Awards.

“The Youth Hub has helped me become a confident and outgoing person and given me the experience of being in a working environment,” said Savannah, who is 17 and lives in Houghton Regis.

Savannah’s volunteering role at the Youth Hub led her to find out more about the apprenticeship opportunities offered by Aldwyck*. “The Youth Hub helped me look at the apprenticeships available and I decided the customer services role would be the best option”, she said. “I’m an aspiring makeup artist and this apprenticeship will help me develop my customer service skills as well as open new doors in my future career.”

Kirsty Pepper, Executive Director of Housing and Customer Services, said “We’re delighted to welcome Savannah to the Customer Services team; we hope that the experience she gains will set her off on a journey to a successful career.

“We’ve got a number of apprentices working in areas across our business from IT and HR, to Housing Management and Property Services. Apprentices are an important part of our organisation. They bring new ideas, fresh ways of working and enthusiasm to our business.”

Hafi Rahman, Youth and ASB Interventions Officer, said: “I first met Savannah four years ago at one of our youth clubs — she was a quiet individual who showed huge potential. My hope for her was to not only become a volunteer but become a paid member of staff one day. I know Savannah will have a fantastic experience working within the Customer Services team and I wish her all the best with her apprenticeship. I’m pleased to have her as part of the business.”
