Houghton Regis Neighbourhood Plan – June 2018 Update

Houghton Regis Neighbourhood Plan – June 2018

Following feedback of the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group meeting held on the 18th April 2018, it was decided that in order to promote the plan further, two public meetings would be held on the 18th May 2018, one in the afternoon and one in the evening.

Posters were displayed in the Town Council’s noticeboard, invites were sent to over 100 contacts (those who had expressed an interest in the progress of the plan). Facebook, Twitter and Instagram were also used to promote the meetings. In total 23 people attended the meetings. This figure may seem disappointing, however, the conversations around those topics were identified as being key to the plan, were very valuable and those who attended really engaged.

What now? Well, the survey closed on the 31st May 2018. We have had nearly 600 responses, which when you consider this is 3 ½ % of the Town, this is a good number. Alongside the survey, feedback will be gathered from each of the topic groups and will be provided to the Town Councils planning consultant who will transfer and incorporate this information into a draft plan. The draft plan will be presented to the Town Councils Planning Committee then on to full Council for endorsement. The next stage will be public consultation and community engagement.

One of the difficult things for us has been to get enough volunteers to help with the work on the topic groups. Each group leader has been trying to contact people who would appear to have an interest in their area, but with very mixed success. We invite anyone who feels they have time to give and wants to be involved to either send an email to townplan@houghtonregis.org.uk letting us know which area or areas interest you or to call the town council office (01582 708540) and let them know. The relevant group leader will then contact you with more information about how you can join in the work.
These working groups will be reporting back to the steering group with their suggestions for what the plan needs to say.

If anyone has any questions about exactly what a neighbourhood plan is or what it can do for us, please just ask!

You can use the email address above or call the town council office and they will gladly pass on your questions to the Steering Group and we will get back to you as quickly as we can.

We look forward to working with you.
