Bike Swap Event on Sunday - Or Just Donate :-)

Is there a child’s bike collecting dust in your garage or shed that could do someone else a good turn? Central Bedfordshire’s Travel Choices is offering the chance to put unloved bikes back into circulation by bringing them along to Dunstable Icknield Lower School’s Bike Swap Shop.

Icknield have teamed up with Watling Lower School and Priory Academy to help keep children on their bikes without the expense of purchasing a brand new one each time they grow.  The Bike Swap Shop will run on Saturday 29th November alongside Icknield’s annual Christmas Fayre.

Alvina Farrow, Active Travel Manager at the Travel Choices Hub said:
“If you have a bike that is sad and lonely but would make another child happy this Christmas, please bring  it along. We’ll have two fully qualified bike mechanics available on the day to make sure all bikes are shipshape and ready to be swapped.”

No cash will change hands at the event with owners expected to exchange bikes based on a mutually satisfactory agreement.   If you’d prefer to  donate a bike and don’t need a swap, there will be an auction at the end of the event to raise funds for Dunstable Icknield Lower School.

Cllr Nigel Young, Executive Member for Regeneration, said:
“Bikes are a big investment for families, particularly as children grow so fast.  The Bike Swap is a great way to help people save money and keep children cycling, with all the health benefits being active brings.”

Bikes can be dropped off between 9am-11am with swaps taking place between 12pm-2pm.  The event will end with the auction of donated bikes from 2pm-3pm. If you’d like to bring a bike along to the event, just email Ruby Tobin on for your registration form.
