Work Clubs at Houghton Regis Library & Kingsland Centre Aim to Help People Back To Work

New Work Clubs launched to boost employment and skills

New Work Clubs for adults who are looking for jobs, training, further learning or volunteering, have launched.

The free clubs, run by Voluntary and Community Action in partnership with Central Bedfordshire Council have qualified advisers at every session to help with job searches, preparing a CV or job application, interview preparation, and exploring career options or volunteering as a way of getting into work, changing career or developing skills and interests.

The Work Clubs are open from 9.30 to 12.00pm and 1.00pm to 3.00pm at the following local locations:

 *   Houghton Regis Kingsland – every Tuesday morning at the Kingsland Skills and Enterprise Centre, Parkside Drive LU5 5PY
 *   Houghton Regis Town Centre – every Monday afternoon at Houghton Regis Library (Meeting Room), Bedford Square, Tithe Farm Road LU5 5ES
 *   Dunstable Town Centre – every Tuesday at Grove Corner, 76a High Street North LU6 1NF

*Work Clubs will be closed from 22 December 2014 to 2 January 2015.

John Gelder, Director, Voluntary and Community Action, said: “We have been enabling residents to access work, training and volunteering through our popular employment support courses and the Volunteer Centre for some years.  The Work Clubs now enable us to provide on-going support to those who need additional help or who simply want somewhere where they can undertake their job search activities.”

The programme runs until August 2015 and is funded as part of an extra £1.4m in European Social Fund (ESF) money. For full details of ESF activity visit: www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/esf

* Voluntary & Community Action South Beds received a grant from Houghton Regis Town Council in November 2013 for £2,750, under the Town Council's 'Key Partner' Grant Programme.
