The Future of Dunstable Middle Schools

Parents and the wider community are encouraged to have their say on the proposed closure of Ashton, Brewers Hill and Streetfield Middle Schools in Dunstable before the final stage of the consultation process closes at 5pm on Monday 7 July.

Details of how to comment on the three separate consultations are available from the three schools and also from Central Bedfordshire Council’s website.

Statutory notices in relation to the closures can be found here.

Following the conclusion of the consultation there will be a further public meeting at 10 am on 22 July at the council’s Priory House offices in Chicksands. At that meeting the Children’s Overview and Scrutiny committee will discuss any proposals the three schools bring forward about their future viability.

The council’s Executive will then make a final decision at their meeting on 19 August, where they will consider and discuss a detailed and wide-ranging report covering the outcomes of three consultations, previous public meetings, as well as the schools alternative proposals and other relevant factors relating to the future of the schools.

Everyone is welcome to attend CBC Council meetings. To speak at the Overview and Scrutiny meeting registration is required before the start of the meeting. For that contact the Scrutiny team on 0300 300 4634 or email scrutiny@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk for more information.

Cllr Mark Versallion, Executive Member for Children’s Services, said:

"This is a very important and difficult decision that we are faced with as something has to change now for these three schools. I encourage everyone, particularly parents, to come along to the meetings. We will be listening carefully to everything we are told and considering it so we can make the best possible decision for children's education.”
