Houghton Regis Leisure Centre Swimming Will (hopefully) Return For the Summer Holidays
The Houghton Regis Leisure Centre Action Group are reporting that at the beginning of April the management of the Leisure Centre was contracted to Stevenage Leisure Ltd for a further seven years. SL will also be running Flitwick, Sandy and Biggleswade centres with renewed contracts.
The centre are currently in the process of interviewing for a Manager and are recruiting life guards to be trained in the Stevenage Leisure ways. The footfall at the centre increased from 18,609 persons from October to December 2013 to 27,756 from January to March 2014.
A contract has now been awarded for the refurbishment of the changing rooms, for the swimming pool and repairs to the roof. Work is expected to begin on 27th May, but it is envisaged that more work than was first thought will be necessary to repair the roof over the changing rooms. SL are hoping that the swimming pool will be reopened prior to the school summer holidays in July, initially with temporary changing facilities.
A National Customer Survey takes place at the centre for 9 days during July, organised between Sheffield Hallam University and Sport England, and HRLCAG hope that the public will pop in and take part in this survey.
