G & T Meeting Limited to 180

180 people will be allowed to attend a meeting on Thursday this week which will decide on the recommended sites to be allocated for gypsy, traveller, and showpersons sites in Central Bedfordshire. And any comments on the 32 sites being put forward must be in today.

In a letter to members and parish councils, a spokesman for Central Bedfordshire Council said: "Should we experience a greater number of residents wishing to attend than this we will unfortunately not be able to accommodate them."

In the current round of proposed sites, three sites were available for consideration around Houghton Regis. One at Thorn Turn, near the sewage works was considered, but was dismissed by officers as being unsuitable. Another site at Blue Waters, near Plaiters Way, was dismissed by officers because it was the Blue Waters managed woodland. The third site is a private site that would be privately managed, and that is situated in Bidwell off Bedford Road between the Thorn Road and  the Red Lion Crown Carvery.

The public meeting on Thursday will be recommending final sites, and you are welcome to attend. If you wish to speak at this meeting please contact Jonathon Partridge on 0300 300 4634. If you would like to make representation before the meeting, please email your comments to Jonathon.Partridge@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk before 25 February.

Central Bedfordshire Council will formally consult on the short list of sites in May / June 2013. In the meantime, the Council will also be accepting comments on the Gypsy and Traveller Plan, including the 32 sites published in January. Comments should be sent by email to LDF@centralbedfordshire.gov.uk or in writing to the Strategic Planning and Housing Team, Central Bedfordshire Council, Priory House, Monks Walk, Chicksands, Shefford, Bedfordshire, SG17 5TQ.
