17/09/2012 - 17/09/2012 Assisted Dying and End of Life Decisions
In January this year the Commission on Assisted Dying made a number of recommendations as to how current English law should be changed to allow those who had been diagnosed with less than a year to live to seek an assisted suicide. Such a recommendation has been welcomed by many and widely criticised by others. Some say the recommendations don’t go far enough, others see them as the start of a slippery slope towards clinician assisted suicide on a larger scale. The issue of assisted dying, and all end of life decisions, remains a highly controversial area and one that still requires full debate. This conference is designed to bring together a variety of opinions and professional perspectives on this topical issue. It is hoped, with the provision of different views and areas of expertise, there will be some furthering of the debate.
